How Can We Help?
Whether you are new to therapy or just new to Alpenglow Therapy, here are some answers to questions you may have to help you make your next step!
Q&A
I do not live in CO or UT. Can I book with you?
Unfortunately, No. Therapists are only licensed per state, and currently I practice in Utah and Colorado. If you are out of state and need to find a therapist, I recommend going to psychologytoday.com and narrowing your search by state.
Why Telehealth Therapy?
Telehealth is a great option to access quality care in a busy world.
It helps with those unable to drive or get a ride, social distancing, accessibility for those with chronic illness or chronic pain. It's great for busy schedules, less of a time commitment, and has historically helped reach underserved communities.
It is treatment from the comfort of your home.
What do I need to do before my first session?
Once you book your intake appointment, make sure to fill out and return all intake paperwork before joining the first session. Paperwork is appreciated 24 hours before the intake session so I have time to go over all your information.
Before our session make sure you are in a room with privacy and have a good internet connection.
Is Telehealth Therapy Safe?
Yes! Telehealth therapy is safe to use. Alpenglow Therapy has a video platform called TheraPlatform that is HIIPA compliant for your safety and privacy.
Check out TheraPlatform for more information regarding their security measures.
What Should I Bring to Therapy?
Here are some items my clients like to bring to therapy:
-
Notebook and writing utensil
-
Comfy blankets
-
Fidget items
-
Beverage
-
Pet (animals are always welcome)
I Have a Newborn - I Can't Get Away for Therapy!
Being a new mom is a full-time job.
Luckily telehealth therapy is a great option for postpartum care! We can try to time your sessions with the baby's sleep schedule. And if the baby needs attention? No worries! We can be flexible in session with interuptions from the newborn!
Where Do I Need to be for My Appointment?
Wherever is comfortable AND private!
I have clients who join session in their car after work, outdoors at a park, or in a room with a closed door. That is the joy of meeting online.
Please note that Alpenglow Therapy does not do telehealth if the client is operating a vehicle as it is a safety hazard.
First Time in Therapy-What Should I Expect?
First session is called an intake session - this is a get to know you meeting for both of us. For you to make sure you are comfortable with me as your therapist and for me to understand who you are as a client.
Don't worry, you wont't have to do all the talking, I have plenty of questions to get you going! At the end of the intake we will make therapeutic goals that will help us guide future session content.
Sessions following the intake may include talking about any recent developments in your life, skill building coping tools, mindfulness and processing events. It all depends on your goals and current feelings. If you have something you want to talk about in therapy, feel free to share. And if you don't know what to talk about, no worries! I will always have something for us to do.
